When powerful interests propose constructing vast dam projects, who speaks for the local communities, the people and ecosystems that depend on the rivers for their life and livelihood?

International Rivers Network (IRN) uses a skilled staff of advisors, interns, and volunteers trained in economics, biology, engineering, hydrology, anthropology, and environmental science to assess the benefits and costs of big dam projects around the world. IRN joins grassroots leaders working to protect their local rivers and watersheds, encouraging sustainable and equitable use of river resources for water, energy, and flood management.

By following a two-pronged approach—working to halt specific projects while also addressing root causes of river destruction—IRN seeks to create a world in which rivers and watersheds are valued and protected for the benefit of all the human and biological communities that rely on them.
