For nearly 20 years, Seva has profoundly influenced and informed Marra's founders in their approach to giving.
Seva is a Sanskrit word that means "service". It is a word that attracts and holds a promise of both relieving suffering and finding its solutions, reflecting Seva's commitment to effective, concrete results combined with careful attention to the spiritual side of their work.
A grant to Seva accomplishes so much for so little. For example, $4,000 provides all surgery, follow-up medical care, and transportation needed to save 100 people from cataract blindness in Nepal, India or Tibet. Other equally cost-effective programs are aimed at community self-development in Central America, and disease prevention among Tribal Nations in the U.S.
